Description

If you've ever dreamt of being there when it all started, this one's for you.

At Zeroport, we're rethinking how humans and AI agents securely access and interact with critical systems.

As AI becomes more autonomous, controlling what it can access is no longer enough. We're pioneering Least Agency: limiting what AI agents (and humans) can actually do, and enforcing those boundaries independently through physical containment.

Our approach combines purpose-built hardware, robust software, and non-IP connectivity to enable secure, real-time work for both AI agents and humans, without exposing the protected network.

It sounds bold, we know. That's exactly the point.

Who We Are

Zeroport is pioneering Least Agency for AI and human network access.

Our hardware-enforced architecture creates physical boundaries between AI agents, human users, and critical systems, limiting what they can reach and do by design.

We're a focused, technical team with a strong builder mentality, moving fast to redefine how humans and AI securely interact with the world's most critical systems.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our small, fast-moving team, where engineers own problems end-to-end and work across languages, services, and system boundaries.

This role requires more than strong software engineering. We’re looking for someone with strong system and product thinking — someone who can take a high-level need, understand the broader context, challenge assumptions, identify user flows and edge cases, and help shape the right solution before writing the code.

AI is deeply integrated into how we build software. We use coding agents daily to plan, develop, review, test, and investigate code, making strong engineering judgment and the ability to critically validate AI-generated work essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Own complex problems from initial need through design, implementation, testing, and production
  • Turn high-level requirements into well-defined solutions, considering user flows, edge cases, constraints, and expected behavior
  • Think beyond the immediate task and consider how a feature fits into the broader system and evolves over time
  • Design and build across multiple parts of the system and technology stack
  • Make architecture decisions with reliability, security, failure scenarios, upgrades, and backward compatibility in mind
  • Work daily with AI coding agents to plan, build, investigate, and validate software
  • Debug complex issues across distributed systems and real-world environments
  • Research unfamiliar technologies, protocols, and domains and quickly turn findings into working solutions
  • Collaborate across software, embedded, hardware, security, and infrastructure

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
  • Strong system and product thinking — the ability to understand the problem behind a requirement, define scope, anticipate edge cases and constraints, and make thoughtful decisions about how a solution should work
  • Ability to operate effectively with ambiguity and drive problems forward without relying on fully defined specifications
  • Strong system design and architecture skills
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents, such as Claude Code or similar tools, as part of the development workflow
  • Ability to learn new technologies, languages, and domains quickly
  • Experience debugging complex or distributed systems
  • Solid understanding of networking and security fundamentals, including TCP/IP, TLS/mTLS, certificates, PKI, and authentication

Nice to Have

  • Real-time media: WebRTC (ICE/TURN, DTLS), GStreamer, H.264, or remote desktop protocols such as RDP
  • Identity: SAML, OIDC, LDAP/Active Directory
  • Security engineering: threat modeling, secure protocol design, PKI and mTLS, code signing and signed updates, Linux hardening, or an offensive security / CTF background
  • Embedded Linux and hardware interfaces: Yocto, ARM boards, CAN (ISO-TP), UART, HID input, V4L2 video capture
  • Flutter with native code (FFI, platform channels) or another cross-platform desktop stack
  • Shipping on-premise or air-gapped software
  • Building your own AI tooling: agent workflows, skills, MCP servers

Why Join Us

AI is making ordinary software cheap to produce. Building close to hardware is where the interesting problems are moving: the constraints are real, the feedback is immediate, and there's more to learn than any framework can

  • Solve challenging problems across software, hardware, networking, security, and AI
  • Work in an environment where AI is an integral part of how software is built
  • Take real ownership and have a direct impact on the product and how it evolves
  • Work with a small, highly technical team building something fundamentally new
  • Competitive salary and benefits

Let's build it together!

Even if you don’t meet every requirement - we’d still love to hear from curious, motivated people.
